Dict

Hold a key. Talk. Let go.

Dict is private dictation for the Mac. Say what you want to type and the words land wherever your cursor is, transcribed entirely on your Mac.

14 days free Then $9.99 once, with no subscription and no account. For Macs with Apple silicon running macOS 26 or later.

Anywhere there's a cursor.

Messages, documents, code editors, terminals, search boxes. Dict lives in your menu bar and types into whatever app you're already using.

Tap Space while holding the key

Hands-free for the long ones.

Tap Space while you hold the key and Dict keeps listening after you let go. The panel grows to show your words as they arrive. Press Command when you're done.

Me and Sam was thinking we could ship it Wednesday.

You said: “Um, so me and Sam was thinking we could, uh, ship it Monday. Actually no, Wednesday.”

Leaves out the ums.

Verbatim keeps every word. Clean drops the filler and keeps only your corrected version when you change your mind. Polished fixes small grammar slips too. Both run on Apple Intelligence, on your Mac.

Already in the document

Spells it the way your document does.

Dict reads the field you're dictating into and spells names, acronyms and identifiers the way they already appear there. In editors and terminals, code terms come out formatted.

Both run on your Mac

Two engines, both on your Mac.

Apple's speech recognition works right away. NVIDIA's Parakeet is a one-time 500 MB download that's more accurate and punctuates on its own. When the download finishes, Dict switches over by itself.

Your key, your colors, your history.

Five color schemes.

The panel's live spectrum follows your voice in Ember, Phosphor, Glacier, Ultraviolet or Graphite. Pick one to try it.

Pick your key.

Right Command by default. Right Option, Right Control, Fn or any combination you record work too, as press-and-hold or press-to-toggle.

Copy it again later.

History keeps your recent dictations on your Mac, as many as you choose or none at all. Up top: words dictated, time saved and your day streak.

Nothing you say leaves your Mac.

Audio stays in memory and is thrown away once the text is typed. No account, no analytics, no crash reporting. Dict only goes online to check for updates and, if you ask, to download Parakeet. Privacy policy.

The small things.

Word replacements.

Teach Dict the words it keeps getting wrong, and it fixes them every time.

Changed your mind?

Press Escape to cancel a recording, or a transcription that's still in progress.

Lives in the menu bar.

The icon follows your voice while you talk. Its menu switches styles, copies your last dictation, and opens History.

Try it during setup.

Setup explains each permission as it asks, and you dictate your first sentence before it's over.

Updates itself.

Dict checks for new versions once a day, or whenever you choose Check for Updates.

Even the license is offline.

Your key is checked on your Mac. No account, no activation server, and it works on every Mac you own.

Pay once. Keep it.

Try every feature free for 14 days. If Dict earns a spot in your menu bar, buy it once and it's yours.
